Welcome to the Official Website for Bournemouth Carnival 2008.

BOURNEMOUTH
CARNIVAL WEEK

Bournemouth carnival week, originally known as Bournemouth Regatta week, has been in operation since the late 1800's. There have been many changes, especially in the last 40 years, both in title and types of event. In 2006 we were faced with our biggest dilemma ever, lack of funding, mainly due to bad weather and a forced change of date in 2005. However, thanks to a hard working committee, support from the Local Authority and sponsors, plus a well needed dose of hot weather, our 2007 Carnival proved a great success.
This year the weather was less kind to us again, especially our Carnival Parade, however despite this we have again been reasonably successful. This year our carnival photographer and Webmaster was a little more restrained in the number of photos he took, only about 850 compared with last year's 1100!!! All of these photos will be placed on our web-site, so that no one will wonder what happened to their photo. This will take a little time though! If participants or sponsors would like copies please contact us. Displaying photos of all the events will, hopefully encourage local business concerns to assist us for, we hope, a very successful 2009 Carnival.
Carnivals country-wide are experiencing problems, due mainly to high insurance premiums and the many health and safety regulations which are well and truly in force for all of us. Maybe we are all going to have to re-think our planning and return to the 1800's (before the combustion engine!) with walking and man-drawn vehicles, and support from local trades and social clubs who are covered by insurance and health and safety in their own right.
We Need You

The committee are all volunteers, no one is paid for any services rendered, so please, traders and financial services, who benefit so much from trading in our beautiful Town, become a greater part of the community and help the continuation of the town's oldest voluntary activities.

Kelly Everett-Stroud,
Our 2008/2009 Bournemouth Carnival Queen

The 2008 Carnival Queen Contest was held at the Marsham Court Hotel, Bournemouth on Thursday 31st July. Judged by a representative from the Marsham Court, former Carnival Committee member, Valery Beale, the Poole Town Crier, David Squire, and Russian Ice Star Olga Persankova who stars in Beauty and the Beast at the Bournemouth International Centre, the judges undertook the difficult task of choosing between a smaller than usual number, but nevertheless beautiful and worthy entries. Five finalists were eventually chosen to represent Bournemouth headed by Kelly, our new Carnival Queen, They will serve for the the 2008/2009 season. All five rode at the head of this years Bournemouth Carnival procession ain a vintage Rolls Royce, and will represent Bournemouth at many other carnivals throughout this season.

Next year we are looking for more entries please!
